Kaohsiung City's 81st and 88th Redevelopment Zones Win the 2021 Urban Engineering Gold Quality Award
According to the Land Administration Bureau of the Kaohisung City Government, the 81st Redevelopment Zone is located in the Daliao District of Kaohsiung City, which was formerly the site of a military dependents' village that was left idle due to the relocation of the community. The zone is strategically located, with Fengshan District to the north, the main MRT depot to the east, the natural landscape of Fenghuang Mountain to the west and the commercial center of Daliao to the south, making it ideally positioned for redevelopment into a high-quality residential community. Therefore, the city government, through the urban readjustment project, will handle land development by means of city land readjustment to revitalize the idle land and drive local development. After the readjustment is completed, it will become a high-quality residential area with the most development potential in Daliao District.
The 88th Redevelopment Zone is located in Cianjhen District and is part of the Asia New Bay Area (Multifunctional Commerce and Trade Park) Development Zone. The city government and the central government both attach great importance to the zone, with major infrastructure projects in the area including the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center, Kaohsiung Port Cruise Terminal, Kaohsiung Music Center, the Kaohsiung City Main Library, and the Kaohsiung Circular Light Rail, etc. It is expected that the Asia New Bay Area shall play a pivotal role in the industry transformation of Kaohsiung. The Redevelopment Zone has seen the opening of three roads, connecting Time Avenue (Shihdai Blvd.), Zhonghua 5th Road and Kaixuan 4th Road, improving the traffic flow of the area!
Chen Kuan-Fu, Director-General of the Land Administration Bureau of the Kaohsiung City Government, pointed out that readjustment projects are important to the civic life in the city as well as the city's infrastructure. The Bureau has always been committed to improving the quality of engineering projects and refining the latest engineering technologies. In recent years, in line with the city government's road-smoothening policy and the concept of transforming Kaohsiung into a "sponge city," the city's redevelopment projects have adopted shared underground pipelines (cable lines) and permeable pavement design. Although many difficulties were encountered during the construction process, they were all fortunately overcome. The concerted efforts have resulted in the city government winning recognition with the Gold Quality Awards. It is also a testament to the dedication and efforts of the Land Administration Bureau team up with public works projects, the implementation of the three-level quality control system, the improvement of construction quality and efficiency and the completion of public works that meet the expectations of the public.
Land readjustment projects are a key manifestation of urban planning and the cornerstone of urban infrastructure, and its completion will improve the living environment and effectively release new space for urban development. The Land Administration Bureau will continue to build infrastructure public facilities through readjustment projects and insist on continuously improving the quality and technology of public works to effectively improve the quality of urban landscape and open space and to drive the overall urban development of the Greater Kaohsiung area.
